Western Australia Gasfields pay virtually no taxes because they are on Aboriginal land
Out in Western Australia there are two
laws. These are state laws and aboriginal laws. One of the gas companies
operating in Western Australia uses this loophole to pay only a small amount of
money to the national government and because it’s oilfield and gas field is on
aboriginal land it pays the natives there to work for them to have facilities
set up for them and this costs the gas company millions of pounds less in
Australian dollars. It’s a loophole that they use so that they can produce
large amounts of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases but not have to pay
for these omissions. And the aboriginal people are complaining because they are
still laughing all the way to the bank. It seems to Australia thinks it’s in a
different situation for the rest of the world when it comes to the future of
energy production.
