Should we put solar panels on the walls for winter?

A last few days of the summer sun as the Autumn starts to set in. As the evenings draw to a close. We start to see less hours of sunshine on the solar panels and as the sun also sinks lower in the sky the angle of the sun on the solar panels also decreases, allowing less sun light to be absorbed. So does it make sense for the winter months to have solar panels on the side of the house rather than the roof. In those days sunny days of winter it would certainly make a difference at my house. Councils allow solar panels on the roof, but are not interested in allowing the panels on the side of the house as it ruins the look of the street. Panels that look like tiles or bricks could make successful inroads here.
