“Have Your Easter Eggs Shrunk… or Is It Just Me?”

You unwrap your Easter egg, full of anticipation… and within seconds you’re left thinking:

👉 “I’m sure these used to be bigger…”

Well, you’re not imagining things.

This year, many Easter eggs are smaller — and the reason comes down to one key ingredient:

🍫 Cocoa is in short supply

Global cocoa production has taken a hit, particularly in major growing regions like West Africa. Poor harvests, extreme weather, and plant disease have all played a part. The result?

➡️ Less cocoa available worldwide
➡️ Higher prices for chocolate manufacturers
➡️ And ultimately… smaller Easter eggs on the shelves

📉 The sneaky shrink

Rather than dramatically increasing prices (which we’d all notice straight away), many manufacturers have opted for a quieter approach:

  • Slightly smaller eggs
  • Thinner chocolate shells
  • Same packaging size (to disguise the change!)

This phenomenon even has a name:

And yes, your Easter egg has officially joined the club.

🤔 Is this all bad news?

From a chocolate lover’s perspective — absolutely tragic.

But from a sustainability angle… it’s a bit more complicated.

Cocoa farming is under huge pressure:

  • Deforestation
  • Climate change
  • Soil degradation

A shortage forces the industry to rethink:

  • More sustainable farming methods
  • Better supply chains
  • Less waste

So while your Easter egg might be smaller, it could (eventually) lead to a more sustainable chocolate industry.

This year:

  • Your Easter egg may be smaller
  • It may cost more
  • And it might disappear even faster than usual

But behind that chocolate shell is a much bigger story about climate, agriculture, and global supply chains.

👉 Perhaps this Easter, we enjoy the chocolate… but also think a little about where it comes from.
